The MLS is doing everything in their power in order to help grow the sport of soccer in the United States. They do everything from grassroots marketing to bringing in some of the World’s most renowned soccer players. Their most recent big-time move consists of bringing Thierry Henry, one of the greatest French goal scorers in history over to the New York Red Bulls.
Is this the answer for the MLS? Will brining these players, such as David Beckham, Thierry Henry and possibly Marquez make the difference? As we all know these players are at the end of their careers, but they’re still special players. This formula is based off the same idea of when Pele came over to play for the NY Cosmos. It worked then, but times are different now.
I’m a passionate soccer fan and having the opportunity to see Thierry Henry or David Beckham play does interest me. I must admit that. I wasn’t the type to consider going to an MLS game, but that may have changed considering I live so close to where the Red Bulls play. So this idea can absolutely work with already sold soccer fans. I know who Thierry Henry is, but do casual soccer fans?
There are many other fans like myself out there, so it can help. But there are also fans that believe these guys are basically in retirement and it’s almost degrading for the league. Thierry Henry has come to the Red Bull as retirement so he can spend time in NY. He’s getting paid big bucks for it, so hopefully this isn’t his mentality.
Can this work for someone who’s more of a casual fan, but doesn’t know much about Thierry Henry and other big players? My answer is probably not! If they’re just casual American fans, they probably never even heard of Thierry Henry! So why in the World would they want to go see him?
These same casual fans have it in them to become hardcore fans. They probably played soccer as kids, but they don’t see the entire game. They don’t see what the game consists of off the ball. But they can still go watch the game and have a good time. The problem is that these fans would probably rather spend their money on a basketball or baseball game.
Many people ask why soccer is so big in other countries. The answer is simple; they don’t have other major leagues! Soccer is their NBA, MLB and NFL combined. That will obviously never happen in the States, but they don’t need that to be successful.
The MLS has come a very long way. I give them a ton of credit as they’ve done so much to help the sport. Once they can really start reaching the younger generation and providing more super stars to look up to, their formula can really work. The way they’ve marketed Landon Donovan has been fantastic, so hopefully they can do this with guys like Beckham and Henry as well. It’s a long term process, but they’re doing great!

As the minutes ticked away, the chances for the U.S. World Cup squad to advance was getting more and more unlikely. In many fans minds, it was over even though we kept attacking. All I could think about was waiting another four years for them to get another chance to prove themselves to the soccer World. But there it was -the changing moment. Landon Donovan’s 90th minute goal is arguably one of the best moments in U.S. soccer history!
It was a must win situation for U.S.A. in their final game vs. Algeria. This game had American soccer fans biting their nails and caused many pits in stomachs. I know my stomach couldn’t handle it. They had some incredible chances, but nothing was falling for them. Once again, they even had a poor decision made by the ref which took a goal back from them.
England was playing against Slovenia as the U.S. played Algeria. If England won their match, it would force the U.S. into a must win situation. We all knew that England took a lead early in the game and it was unlikely that Slovenia would get the equalizer with England’s strong and experienced backline. As each minute ticked away, it seemed as if the American boys were going home.
It took 12 seconds to put the game winner together. They moved the ball from one end of the field to the other and left the U.S. fans with something to talk about. This game winner was probably the biggest goal and most dramatic game winners in the 94 years that the U.S. Men’s National Team has been playing.
And of course it was Landon Donovan. The leader of the team steps up for the occasion. This goal, as well as the goal in their comeback vs. Slovenia only solidifies the argument that Landon’s the greatest U.S. soccer player of all-time.
When Landon scored this goal, it wasn’t only a game winner. It didn’t only mean we move on to the next round. It also meant that for the first in the modern era, that the U.S. soccer team completes the group stage in first place. Finishing ahead of England is something to brag about! But now it means a single elimination match vs. Ghana, who caused problems for us in 2006.
The U.S. squad proved that they never give up. They’ll fight until the final whistle. They’ve showed they can come back and they’ve showed they can score. With a bit of luck on their side and the fight they’ve been playing with, anything can happen in the knockout stage.
If the U.S. brings their A-game vs. Ghana, they’re legit contenders. Keep an eye on Landon Donovan and watch the magic he brings. A win here will make more noise for U.S. soccer.

If you’re a NY Knicks fan, then I must say I’m sorry. Dreams were crushed for New Yorkers last night as Lebron announced his move to the Miami Heat.
This decision by Lebron is a pure disaster for the Knicks. The Knicks player of the future is Danilo Gallinari. Well, they do have Amare now but the odds of his knees holding up are pretty slim. I can see the Knicks spending on Amare who will end up being like a Marbury situation.
We all know it’s been a tough road for any Knicks fan in this past decade. I wish I can say it’s getting better, but it’s not! At least not in the next 5 years! For fans that don’t get to catch games very often due to the sky high prices at MSG, this will change. Tickets will be available for affordable prices, at least until they start competing.
Other than the cheap tickets for Knicks fans, let’s discuss some other things to look forward to. Lebron, Wade and Bosh will eventually come to NY and put on a show. I’d imagine that will be something exciting to watch, although it will really hurt for Knicks fans.
Then Nate Robinson will come back to MSG and bring some excitement. Expect a monster dunk from the little guy. And it’s only a matter of time before Marbury starts speaking his mind about the Knicks organization.
This Knicks era is going to be very bad. It’s going to be worse than the Travis Knight days. I can’t believe I just said it, but it’s the truth. I guess Sir Barkley was right when he said the Knicks would be cursed forever when they decided to trade Patrick Ewing for Glen Rice and Luc Longley.
I’m sure the Knicks back-office is kicking themselves, but I’m not sure they realize how bad it really is! I’d imagine they still try to make things a bit better. Maybe they can look for some sign and trade deals, but its slim pickings with those players.
So even with sign and trades, it won’t solve much. An injury prone TMac isn’t the answer or an Eddie House. These guys are heading in the wrong direction at this point in their careers. As for future picks, they may have to give up their draft pick to Houston next year and they don’t even get a pick in 2012.

Paintball rules. I love to play it whenever I can, and I always can’t wait until I get to play again. In this article I will share with you a few reasons why I think paintball rules.
Amusement parks are fun and all, but even the excitement and rush I get from riding the highest roller coaster doesn’t compare to excitement and rush I get from playing paintball. Right at the start of the game, until the very end, it is a huge rush.
You never know what is going to happen in each game. You could guess, but the truth is, every game of paintball is different from the rest. Even after a thousand games, each game is always different. This makes each game as exciting as the first one you played in.
Are you more of a sniper that likes to stay hidden, or would you rather take the battle head on and send your paintballs flying at your opponents as much as possible. There’s a style for everyone.
Just as NASCAR racers tune and customize their cars how they want them, paintballers customize their markers exactly how they want them. There are hundreds of ways you can customize your marker and as a paintballer, your marker is a reflection of you as a player. You not only get to pick the marker that suits you, but you also can customize your marker exactly how you want it. It’s always fun to look at other people’s markers to see what set up they have.
I recommend to anyone that hasn’t played it that you try it out. I do have to say that it isn’t for everyone, but many people that I know who have tried it loved it. I think this sport rocks because it is full of action, it never get’s old because each game is different, and you get to have a sweet paintball marker that you can deck out to the point that it is uniquely yours.
So know that you know what makes paintball such a great activity, its time to start taking a look at paintball gear. Take a look and get started!

Just as a beginner to a sport doesn’t go out and invest thousands of dollars on the top gear, most paintballers don’t opt for the most expensive equipment.
Less expensive markers will often use CO2, a power source that will work fine in most cases, but for those who want all the edge they can get to become a better paintballer, it is inferior to HPA (High Pressure Air).
The top reason for switching to compressed air (also known as HPA) is because of improved performance. Anyone that wants better performance should change power sources.
What is improved when you make the switch? Well first of all consistency is largely improved. CO2 doesn’t like to provide consistent performance during periods of rapid fire. HPA however, provides consistent performance during rapid firing.
When I say consistent performance I mean that when you shoot, the paintballs don’t start to noticeably fly different distances. This drop off is caused from the CO2 not expanding to gas quickly enough.
If you often play in the winter months using CO2 can be detrimental to your markers performance. You can think of cold weather as CO2s worst enemy when it comes to shooting it through your paintball marker.
Your gun can sometimes “freeze up” when you are unloading the paint in cold weather. The liquid literally freezes the inside of your gun and wrecks its performance, sometimes even causing it to stop working until it can unfreeze.
When it is cold out, your marker may start shooting out what looks like to be snow. It can also make a cloud shoot out or your marker and tank to become extremely cold.
The problem with CO2 is that it is in both liquid and gas form inside your tank. Gas is good, but the liquid is bad when it gets into the marker. When it happens, it causes poor performance. Compressed air tanks only have air inside of them.
So, if you are a paintballer that wants the best performance they can get from his marker, investing in a compressed air tank is a must.

Imagine being able to walk outside of your home and practice your lay ups and jump shots. Instead of having to head out to the gym or park to practice your basketball game, why not add your very own in-ground basketball hoop? This way you’ll be able to practice anytime you want and for as long as you want!
Practice makes perfect and there’s no better way to practice then walking outside your home anytime you’re up for it. If you’re thinking about buying a new hoop, an in-ground hoop is the best option. However, it’s not an easy installation process so I’ve created this article to help you during this process.
Before you begin to unload any of the parts of the hoop, make sure you have all the right tools and materials. You’ll need concrete mix (850lbs of concrete) and a wheel barrel to mix it in. You’ll also need water, to make the mix. Other tools include a ladder, several screwdrivers, a tape measure, a shovel and a wrench. You’ll also need a marker.
Do not try to do this without all of these tools and materials. You do not want to take any shortcuts. This will prevent any problems down the road and if done right, this hoop can end up standing for many years to come.
Once you have all your tools, it’s time to make sure the spot in which you’re getting to place the hoop is perfect. The ideal situation is a flat and smooth surface. If there are any bumps or holes, there’s a decent chance someone will eventually get injured.
Once you’re comfortable with the area, you may begin working on the hoop. It’s not very easy to move the hoop once it’s down, so it’s important you’re sure about the placement.
Begin by digging a hole where you’re going to place the hoop. The hole should be 2ft x 2ft. Once you’re hole is complete, mix the concrete and poor it in the hole. The entire hole should be filled with cement and then pat it down. On the pole, measure up 18 inches. That’s how far you’re going to place the pole into the hole. Once the pole has been placed into the concrete, continue by filling the pole with more concrete on top. Take the level to confirm the pole has been placed completely straight.
After the pole is set in place, attach the hoop and backboard. The rim should stand at 10 feet tall and you’re ready to play ball!

With the World Cup only days away, there are several key injuries the USA has recently been dealing with. There’s a big question mark over the strong arm defender Oguchi Onyewu and the magical striker, Jozy Altidore. However, it looks like both of these studs have recovered and are ready to rock against England.
Altidore sprained an ankle less than one week ago. This has given him only two weeks to recover and get back to form before England’s match. American fans were in a panic, but it looks like its OK! It’s a blessing that Onyewu was able to recover. His injury was quite serious; a ruptured patellar tendon. Many thought he would not recover in time for the World Cup.
Onyewu, most commonly referred to as “Gooch” is prepared for England. His recent comments seem very positive as he’s mentioned that he’s feeling fit and can go for 90 minutes.
He’s only had a couple of games to test it out, but he’s been involved in all activities during practice. His first game back against Turkey he did seem rusty, but at least he got to shake off the rust (that’s what the fans are hoping!).
As of today, Altidore returned to training just one week after his ankle sprain. He’s stated that he feels great and the ankle is feeling just fine. Not only is he happy to be back with the squad, but so are all the American fans! Time will tell if Jozy’s ankle can hold up for 90 minutes.
The defensive unit for the USA team has helped bring great success over the past few years. A big part of this was due to Gooch anchoring the unit. It’s been eight months since he’s played a 90 minute match, so we will shortly see if he’s back to form. If he’s not at full form, England will have no problem exploiting the American defense.
Gooch’s experience in the back has put him up against some of the best in the World. Now it’s time to see if he’s ready to match up with Wayne Rooney and Peter Crouch. If he can hold his own against England, then he should be fine through the group stage.
American fans can only hope we see the same quality of play they’ve produced in last summers Confederations Cup. Many want to forget about the last World Cup, but 2002 was a huge success. Anything less than producing those same results, American fans won’t be happy!
